Upcoming changes to the Etsy Shop

New regulations are coming very soon in the international e-commerce realm. I’m not going to go into a lot of details here, my goal here is not to bore you with some random news, but the EU is asking for a couple new things regarding the importation of goods beginning July 1st.

In a nutshell, foreign sellers like myself will have to start collecting VAT on every order going out to Europe. It’s not exactly an obligation (yet) but if this tax is not collected on the seller’s side when an order is placed, that means you, the customer, will have to pay it when you receive your package, and you will have to pay more than if it had already been taken care of.

In either case, the tax will have to be paid at some point, there’s no going around it. But one way of doing it is much cheaper and easier for you than the other.

On my side of things though, that means a whole lot of new administrative burden that is simply too much of a hassle for a small business like mine, at least at this point in time. So just like when the UK came out with similar regulations in the beginning of the year, I’ve decided to rely on Etsy to take care of it.

Which means only one thing, but it’s kind of a big one: I will no longer be able to accept orders coming from Europe in my Main Shop. I will keep it open, no worries, I’ve put too much work on that big baby, but only for North American Customers (US & Canada). All international orders will now have to go through Etsy.

The good news is, that means this place will have to grow in the weeks to come!

When I first opened it, my intention was never to have my Etsy Shop be a duplicate of my Main Shop, but obviously with these new regulations, that’s not the case anymore. From now on I’ll add the majority (if not all) of what I create in this shop too, so that you’re not left aside if you’re living on the other side of the ocean and want to treat yourself or your loved ones with a Forest Treasure from my Atelier.

Running two different shops sure means more work and organization, sure, but I cannot go against new regulations and laws so it’s not even a question of whether to do it or not.

In the end, I’m a French Expat here in the US, and I do care a lot about my European Customers – some of which have followed me since the metamorphosis from Lune de Sève to Wildera, that’s crazy to me! It would be a shame not to do what’s best to continue to let you have access to whatever I create.

So here we are, Earth Walkers! I’m very happy to welcome you in my Etsy Shop… again 🙂
