April Showers, May Flowers – The Magic of Rain (YouTube)

Rain is integral to the essence of the Pacific Northwest; it’s part of this Land’s personality. Since moving here, I’ve grown to love this type of weather. The sound of raindrops tapping at the window, sometimes in the softest voice, sometimes with a vibrant intensity that makes you feel alive and wildly energized. There is profound beauty to be found in rain: the scent of wet earth rising in the air, the rippling patterns in a puddle, the light shining through the most delicate droplet hanging from a pine needle.

Most of the time, I find rain soothing, relaxing, filling the silence with the sounds of life itself. Rain is nourishing, inspiring.

So when the sky changed last weekend and this enchanting weather decided to show up, I took the opportunity of a cozy day spent indoors – happy to be sheltered – to work on a new illustration. One that would capture the magic of rain. It ended up resembling a piece of jewelry, which I love, for it reminds me of raindrop clusters adorning blades of grass and flower petals after a rainstorm.

Tiny raindrops like jewels ♥
